RootPrivacy Policy

Rootline is a private family-tree app. The information you add is yours and your family's. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it.
Who we are
Rootline ("we", "us", "the app") is the data controller for the information described below. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at rootline@gabbibada.com.
Information we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work:
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and a securely hashed password, used to sign you in and secure your tree.
- Family profile information you enter. Names, nicknames, dates of birth, places of birth, occupations, locations, gender, life stories, and the relationships that connect people in your tree. You choose what to add, and some of this may relate to other family members.
- Photos. Profile pictures you upload from your device's photo library. We access your photos only when you choose to set a picture.
- Notification preferences. Whether you have enabled birthday reminders.
We do not collect location tracking data, contacts, microphone audio, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics.
How we use your information
- To create and display your family tree and the relationships within it.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To sync your tree across your devices and with family members you invite.
- To send local birthday reminders, if you turn them on.
How your information is stored and protected
Your data is stored using Supabase, our hosting and database provider, which processes data on our behalf. Information is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and access is restricted by row-level security so that only you and the family members you invite to a tree can read its contents. Birthday reminders are scheduled locally on your device.
Sharing your information
We share your information only in these limited ways:
- With family members you invite. When you invite someone to your tree, the people and details in that tree become visible to them.
- With service providers. We use Supabase (database, authentication, and photo storage) and Expo (app delivery and push/update infrastructure) to operate the app. They process data only to provide these services to us.
- When legally required. If compelled by law, we may disclose information to comply with a valid legal request.
We never sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can remove individual members from your tree at any time within the app. When you delete your account, your associated personal data is removed from our active systems.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access and edit the information in your profile and tree directly in the app.
- Delete members, photos, or your entire account.
- Request a copy or full deletion of your data by emailing rootline@gabbibada.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR, including the right to object to or restrict processing. We will honour these requests.
Children's privacy
Rootline is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. A family tree may include information about children that an adult account holder chooses to add; that information is controlled by the adult who manages the tree. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
International users
Your information may be stored and processed on servers located outside your country. Wherever it is processed, we apply the protections described in this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice within the app.
